Fifty educators from across the country spent an amazing week at Discovery's World Headquarters outside of Washington, DC, this summer for the inaugural Siemens STEM Institute. The week was action-packed with field trips to leading STEM institutions, like the National Institute of Health and the Department of Energy, as well as a special trip to the White House to meet with Dr. John Holdren. While collaborating and working together on STEM-related research projects, Fellows had the opportunity to network and share with peers from across the country. The program provided Fellows interaction with top STEM experts and they walked away with certificates of recognition as well as a new set of tools to inspire STEM education in their classrooms.
This year's 2010 Siemens STEM Institute Fellows had the unique opportunity to take a trip down to the White House to meet with Dr. John Holdren, Assistant to the President for Science and Techology, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). While meeting with Dr. Holdren and Kumar Garg, an aide to Dr. Holdren focused on STEM, Fellows had the opportunity to ask questions and hear about evolving policy behind STEM education.
