STARs Eligibility Criteria

Selection, Notification, and Acceptance Timetables


Teacher Eligibility Criteria:

  • Employed as a full-time teacher in 2009-2010 school year and intend to continue teaching in the 2010-2011 school year
  • Teach science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) courses
  • Teach in any or a combination of grades 7 through 12
  • Hold current state teaching certification in middle school and/or high school science, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • Have a strong academic background in science, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • Have a strong desire to improve teaching and learning in the classroom through research and inquiry-based instruction
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident Alien

Selection Process:

The selection process is based upon teachers’ responses on the application form, responses from references, and school and community demographics. Siemens Foundation’s goal is to provide opportunities to teachers from a broad spectrum of schools to include diversity in size, private vs. public, rural vs. urban, and socioeconomic backgrounds of student populations and communities. More simply stated, teachers from all venues of schools and communities are encouraged to apply.

Notification of Selection and Acceptance Timetable:

An e-mail notification of selection will be sent to teachers on March 18, 2010.

Teachers will notify Oak Ridge Associated Universities of their decision to accept this appointment by March 31, 2010.

Additional information on program specifics and required information will be sent to accepting teachers on April 2, 2010.
