This is a unit that has a focus on water quality. It is designed for schools with access to a creek, however could be adapted. It begins with a scenario in which students are responding to a government request regarding a local waterway. Students are to preform tests and research the watershed for point and nonpoint pollution sources. With this gathered data, students write a report to be "submitted to the government for review".
